  • Quality over quantity

Written by Emily Gordon, input from Csek Creative

Social media users are presented with an influx of content regularly. However, when followers feel as if they are being overwhelmed with posts they become disinterested and unfollow accounts. Therefore, when managing a social media platform it is imperative to consider quality over quantity. What you post matters much more than how often you post. High quality posts are effective and eye-catching. Whereas, accounts that post in mass qualities will often be lost in the shuffle and easily swiped past. In order to have both an informative, active social media page it is necessary to be well versed on stylistic tips that make the most of your profile. Outlined below is a guide on how to make the most of your page:

“Don’t panic- make a plan:”

If a company’s post does not receive enough attention, businesses will often panic and go on a posting spree- hoping to gain as much attention as possible. However, this will likely result in users unfollowing the account as their feeds are now bombarded with content solely from one account. Therefore, it is imperative to make a plan and stick to it. Making a plan entails being well versed on your audience, and understanding what they like and what they don’t. Additionally, it is important to develop your company’s voice. This means sticking to a certain narrative or vibe that your company can be easily identified by. In doing so this allows for individuality. Finally, creating a content calendar is a great way to plan ahead of time as this schedule will ensure that you are posting with a purpose.

“Spend more time creating less content:”

This may come as a surprise to many as the trend for many years was always to “pump” out as much content as possible. However, recent trends indicate that accounts are much more successful when they create something that stands out and provides value. Do you think it is better to have one post with sky rocketing engagement or five different posts with minimal attention?

“Understanding social media algorithms:”

Algorithms are interchangeable with engagement. The more people engage with your posts by liking, commenting and sharing it the more likely it will end up on everyone various feeds. Platforms, such as Instagram, are organized by engagement. Meaning the posts that you will be exposed to in the future come as a direct result to the types of posts you have recently interacted with.

However, algorithms are tentative as they are always changing. Rather than trying to study different algorithms in depth, you should focus on captivating your audience regardless. Every post should have some form of intent behind it and serve a purpose.

“How to increase engagement:”

In order to increase social media engagement follow these tips:

Use Video:

Videos are one of the easiest methods to captivate your audience. They are both engaging and allow for creativity. “In a 2016 study, 43% of people said they wanted to see more video content, and social media posts that included videos were found to receive 48% more views.”

Create shareable content:

By allowing your posts to be shareable you are allowing your page to grow exponentially. Methods such as infographics, humorous memes, or enticing news can be shared and sent around allowing for your page to grow.

Consider using ads:

While many find ads “annoying,” they are beneficial to a company’s success. They draw attention to the company in an easy, convenient manner. Additionally, they allow companies to reach a new audience- not just their regular followers. There are different types of advertisements, such as organic ads and paid posts. However, any type of attention should be accepted and utilized to the company’s utmost advantage.
